I initially trained as a psychomotor therapist and later became a teacher of the Feldenkrais® Method, which I integrated with courses in NLP, Counseling, Bowtech®, Brain Gym®, and Taoist Meditation. I also explored Bach Flowers, Family Constellations, and ventured into Hamer’s Five Biological Laws.

These interests have accompanied and guided me both personally and professionally, adding awareness and knowledge to my work and my entire life.
I have known Andrea Fredi for almost twenty years, since he began introducing EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) in Italy. I immediately found EFT very effective in resolving many issues, both small and large, in my life and beyond. I still consider it an essential tool for me today—a simple and accessible companion. Since then, I have continued following Andrea’s work, which over the years, through various approaches to energy techniques, led him to develop TAI®, or Techniques of Inner Alchemy.

It was easy and almost inevitable to add TAI to my toolbox, as it combined many of my interests and experiences, blending them into an “alchemical synthesis” of great effectiveness, depth, and elegance, as I have seen from the results on both myself and others.

I began my TAI journey in 2021, following the first and second level online courses. After practicing and testing the method positively in various settings, I embarked on the professional training course, which unexpectedly provided significant support in managing challenging experiences I faced during that time.

TAI is an art that allows us to transmute those heavy internal representations that weigh down our existence into gold, into energy available to manifest the best parts of ourselves and regain control of our lives.

There are times in life when we are faced with events so powerful and destabilizing that our consciousness, in the moment, is unable to comprehend and address them. As a result, these experiences remain crystallized in the most ancient parts of the brain, where the responses to problems are automatic and not very effective in creatively responding to new life challenges. This can cause us to be trapped in these “space-time capsules”, and as a result, our biography is written and rewritten, always following the same script.

TAI helps us update our system of interpreting experiences and opens us to new, creative responses to old problems.

The alchemical crucible within which this transformation occurs is the body—or more precisely, the three Dantians, three energy centers also referred to as the three brains: the first is located at the level of the abdomen, the second at the heart, and the third between the eyebrows, at the third eye.

The transformative process begins at the bottom, ascending the internal representations that we focus on from the first to the third Dantian, guiding the process with phrases that gradually refine the structure.

Beyond applying TAI to myself, I’ve been able to test its effectiveness on others.

The first case I’ll share primarily illustrates the importance of thorough initial investigation through meta-questions to accurately identify the trigger of the problem and the response mechanisms. Additionally, this is crucial for comparison between before and after the practice.

A young woman I’ll call Anna contacted me online, bringing a feeling of inadequacy regarding many tasks she has to face. She feels incapable and, above all, constantly judged and belittled by authority figures.

Anna was unfamiliar with TAI and told me this problem dated back to her teenage years. From the start, she struggled to respond clearly to questions and focus on a specific aspect of the problem. She mentioned many different aspects—memories, thoughts, or bodily sensations. When I urged her to identify the one that caused her the most discomfort, something she could see, feel, or think about, she paused, straightened up, and said, “Okay, now I’ll focus and choose one. There are many things weighing on me. Okay, I’ve picked one.”

At first, it wasn’t clear if we should focus on an experience or a belief, but as I continued asking questions, I decided to work with an experience because it gradually revealed a school-related memory.

She identified an image. I asked her where this image was located in her perceptual field. She said it was nearby, to her right, and that she felt followed by this scene. When I asked her how she knew it was there, she replied that she could sense it like an extension, touching her right ear with her hand. I then asked what specifically about this image triggered her discomfort. She said it was an image from the past when harsh words were spoken to her, and she felt like she couldn’t breathe.

“So, there’s sound?” I asked. As I probed further, I inquired if the image or the words caused her more discomfort. Finally, she said it was the sound.

I had sensed that it was the words she heard, like an extension from her ear, that were the real trigger, though she had initially spoken about the image. I was pleased when she acknowledged this. When I asked about her reaction, she said she felt frozen, unable to respond to what was said to her. The emotions she felt were anger and deep sadness. I asked what thoughts were associated with the situation, and she said, “I feel like they’re telling me I’m a loser and worth nothing.” And part of her believed them.

I suggested the external TAI procedure for the words she heard.

I asked her to place her hands on her lower abdomen and explained how to connect to the first Dantian through her breath. She had her chin slightly raised and her jaw clenched. I suggested the first phrase:

“I take back my power and release the energy contained in those words and everything they represent to me.”
She repeated it in a faint voice, her lips almost closed. I waited for at least a minute before noticing any reaction—a breath, a movement. Then, she loosened the tension in her neck and shoulders and told me she felt a strong presence of mucus in her throat, like a cough preventing her from breathing freely. She swallowed.

I invited her to place her hands on the second Dantian and connect with the heart area. I offered the second phrase:

“I let go of all attachment and identification with those words and everything they represent to me.”

I asked her to listen to what was happening.
This time, her body responded with realignment movements in her spine and a yawn that Anna tried to suppress. I encouraged her not to hold back, to let her body react freely. She said she felt like she was falling and experienced a sharp pain in her liver. Then, finally, she took a full breath and tears welled up, especially in her right eye.

She asked for more time before moving to the third phrase, feeling that her body needed to release more. After wiping her eyes, she said she was ready for the next step.

I then asked her to place two fingers between her eyebrows, and if possible, direct her gaze upward without forcing it. I invited her to say with me:
“I create a new order and coherence within myself in relation to those words and everything they represent to me.”
Her voice was clearer and louder than it had been at the start. She yawned and took deep breaths, feeling much more space around her head.

When she opened her eyes, I asked how she felt, and she said, “Good.” Her face had softened.

I asked her about the initial words, and she told me they felt more distant and blurred. She struggled to reconnect with the emotion, as if the words no longer touched her. “The thought is still there a bit,” she said, “but it’s like I feel stronger now, like I can defend myself, like I’m standing taller.”

We reflected on the change. The experience was still there, but it was no longer an inevitable extension, no longer a hook weighing down her head. Now, the words were behind her shoulders.

She said that when she was working with the second Dantian, the more she let go, the stronger and more supportive her spine became.

We decided to do another round of TAI on the words that were now behind her head. The emotion she felt was fear that these words might stick to her again. The thought was an incredible insight. She admitted that sometimes it was convenient to believe that those words were true. There was an advantage to playing the victim, feeling a bit depressed. “It’s a place I know,” she confessed.

I decided to shift the focus of the second round to the belief that those words, in the end, served her.

Elettra Di Toma
Counselor
Based in Bolzano, working as an integration assistant in a Kindergarten.
For information:
Cell: 3466907511
Email: diele.marge@hotmail.it

Why TAI®?
