TAI to help a 6‑year‑old girl change her state of anger and sadness by visiting an unresolved grief
The mother contacts me because there are changes in the family’s life and her 6‑year‑old daughter cannot adapt to the changes and the new rhythms they imply.
“She wants nothing to have changed and says she does not want to go where she has to go with her mother, so she triggers anger or falls into deep sadness.
There are no other options for her.
Her mother tells me that when she is in the new place she manages to find joy, and the little girl quickly says, in a sorry tone: ‘a tiny bit of joy.’”
We both talk and I ask her what makes her angry. If she can tell me what she disagrees with. She mentions the situations of change, but I see that doing TAI directly on those situations is really too much for this little girl even though I see it helps her to be able to talk about them freely. I perceive that anger and sadness are so intertwined that it will be difficult to do TAI on one or the other.
After a while she gives another example of something she absolutely hates that makes her angry. And then she is truly angry!
It happens every time her brother calls her by a name other than her first name, and she really dislikes that.
I ask her if she can say how he calls her. She says the word: poussinette.
I tell her that it means “little chick girl”, it isn’t really mean.
She answers that she doesn’t like the tone in which he says it.
“Ah! It’s not the word you dislike, it’s his intention.”
“What does it trigger in you when you hear him say that?”
“I feel like hitting him,” she replies.
“Yes, that makes you very angry. Are you angry right now thinking about it?”
“Yes,” she says, and I can feel her anger.
“How would you describe your anger? Does it have a shape, a colour, a taste, a sound, where is it inside you?”
Spontaneously she says: “It is red and it is as big as the whole sky.”
“Okay, that’s huge: as big as the whole sky!”
We place our hands on the belly, the first Dantian, and say:
I take back my power to leave this anger, I release the energy stuck to this anger because it takes a lot of energy from me since it is as big as the whole sky.
Then the second Dantian:
I let go of all identification with the anger because I am angry but I am not the anger; I release all attachments to the anger and to my reactions regarding the anger.
Third Dantian:
I generate and send harmonic frequencies of reconciliation and kindness within me toward this anger.
After a big yawn, I ask her whether the red anger from earlier has changed.
- “Yes, the sky is all green!”
- “Huh?”
- “Yes, it is full of kindness and it fills the whole sky.”
- “Oh wonderful! Do you still want to hit your brother?”
- “No, not at all!” she answers with a smile.
- “Is the anger still somewhere?”
- “No,” she says, “it has been replaced by kindness.”
At that moment I sense we can explore the sadness; she now has enough resource with this green sky.
I return to the episodes previously mentioned where I perceived anger mixed with sadness and ask if she wants to do a passage to remove the sadness from those scenes. Very clearly she says No. She tells me she wants to choose as the sad scene: the death of her dog.
- “Okay.”
“How do you see your dog?” - “I see her lying in the sky, I can’t touch her, I’m a baby, I’m three years old, she is old and Mom is afraid that I’ll hurt her or she’ll hurt me.”
“I’m sad that she is in the sky lying, not moving. Can sadness be the colour blue?” - “Umm, yes,” I say, “if that’s how it shows up for you.”
We do a first TAI pass on the sadness of seeing her dead dog in that scene. At the end I ask what has changed:
- “The sky is all green with kindness. My dog looks at me,” she adds. “She is happy.”
- “Great! Are you happy to know she is happy up there?”
- “No! I want her with me so I can touch her, then I would be happy.”
“Oh, we are exactly at the spot that resembles what she lives through in her family and makes her family live. She imposes unattainable wishes and invents many strategies, ultimatums so that the change does not happen.”
“Do you agree to do a passage on the belief that if you had your dog with you you would be happy?”
“Yes!” she replies.
We place our hands successively on the three Dantians. When her hand is on the second Dantian I hear her little inner voice, heart‑to‑heart with mine, saying ‘I have the image of my dog in my heart.’
I say nothing so as not to influence; I let the TAI process run until the final yawn. Then I ask:
“Has anything changed?”
She answers with immense joy:
“She is in my heart.”
“Do you need to touch her, have her with you to be happy?”
“No! It’s no longer important because I have her in my heart forever!”
I smile.
(I indeed heard her little inner voice and, above all, it was true for her; she perceived it that way.)
“Now that you have this resource inside you, do you want us to go see the places that were difficult for you earlier?”
“No! It’s fine now!”
She no longer saw those events and change situations the same way. She alone chose to visit that unresolved grief when she was three. The sadness, the anger (second stage of the grieving process) had been blocked at that time and had had time to become as big as the whole sky.
Now she felt she could mourn the family change. She could imagine living things differently. She was no longer stuck in a wish to go back to before, before the family’s life change.
We said the harmonising sentences and she left with a heart full of smiles that she hadn’t really had lately.
